Making it through the trials and tribulations of any NHL season presents many challenges naturally, but adding a global pandemic into the middle of the season was a wrench in the plan that no one had accounted for. Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers were lucky enough to be one of 24 teams invited to participate in the NHL’s return to play bubble in August after having their season postponed for over four months in March. With the extended help of all of its players, coaches, medical staff, and so many more workers, the NHL was able to successfully be the first sports league to crown a champion during the pandemic-ridden year. Although the Oilers failed to make it out of the qualifying round, McDavid showed toughness and determination in sacrificing his time away from family and loved ones all while continuing to perform at an elite level with five goals, including a hat trick, and four assists in the four game series with the Blackhawks.
